Termite Inspections For Home Purchases

WDO & WDI Reports

Buying a home can be a daunting task with a long list of things required during the purchasing stage. Having your soon to be home inspected by a wood destroying organism expert is imperative to be sure there isn't damage or evidence of these found within the home. Home inspection companies many times offer this service included in their regular home inspection but are not properly trained on I.D and treatment options. Our inspectors are able to find signs of termites in ceilings and walls as well as conducive conditions that can lead to termite infestations.

With the different types of termites here in Florida including the Formosan and Eastern Subterranean and Drywood Termite it is extremely important to determine the species in order to correctly treat the home.

Formosan and Eastern Subterranean termites are ground dwellers in search of food sources (cellulose). These termites can forage 300 feet from their colonies reaching depths of up to three feet. Entering homes through the smallest gaps they utilize shelter tubes (mud) to protect themselves from predators (ants) and begin to damage structures immediately.  Formosan termite colonies are known to eat approximately one pound of cellulose per day leading to catastrophic damage if not properly treated and inspected.

Drywood termites typically have much smaller colonies limiting damage but this species does not come from the soil and can live in attic spaces for years before evidence is found.
